There are many degrees of injury from mild tendon involvement, to partial or complete rupture, arthropathy, and massive  rotator cuff rupture. Muscle atrophy and weakness can also be seen and tears may be accompanied by biceps tendon rupture or shoulder instability.<\/p><p>It is a common injury in the general population but especially with people or athletes who perform repeated overhead motions. There is also an increased risk with age.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-77a68ed4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"77a68ed4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-73969f82 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"73969f82\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li class=\" translation-block\">Conservative - consisting of physiotherapy, cryotherapy, anti-inflammatories and rehabilitation especially in the acutely painful stage.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Corticosteroid infiltrations in the subacromial area, Platelet-Rich Plasma PRP and Mesenchymal stem cells.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Surgery - considered if after one year of conservative treatment there is no improvement and even if there is no tear, or if there is a partial or complete tear. Surgery consists of Anterior Acromioplasty of Neer to increase the space under the acromion, removing the bursa, arthroscopic debridement to relieve the impingement, tighten the joint capsule or repairing the tear.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b1cde21 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b1cde21\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wider\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-15528136\" data-id=\"15528136\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-576333fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"576333fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Anterior and Posterior Instability<\/strong><\/h3><p>The glenohumeral joint is one of the most mobile and complex joints in the body, with the greatest range of motion and the one that most frequently dislocates. Dislocation can be either acute or from recurrent instability and the most frequent complication of dislocation is its recurrence. There are different classifications to assess instability, depending on grade, chronology, trauma and direction of the dislocation.<\/p><p class=\" translation-block\">Anterior dislocation is usually produced by abduction, extension and external rotation. In athletes it is due to repetitive overhead motions common for tennis players and swimmers.<\/p><p class=\" translation-block\">Posterior dislocation usually occurs due to axial overload in adduction and internal rotation and is less common than anterior shoulder instability.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d01aeb elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d01aeb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12d2baf1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"12d2baf1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><p>Acute dislocation - requires reduction as soon as possible and immobilization, (not absolute immobilization), for two to five weeks depending on the patient's age.<\/p><p>Recurrent anterior instability - treated with rehabilitation. If that fails and dislocation persists, then arthroscopic or open surgery will be needed to repair the injury and static and dynamic stabilizers. The success of arthroscopic surgery in glenohumeral instability lies in the ability to diagnose and treat all existing injuries.<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\" translation-block\">Conservative treatment - consists of enhancing the external stabilizers of the shoulder and correcting the scapulothoracic alteration.<\/p><p>Recurrent posterior dislocations - when conservative treatment does not succeed and having ruled out multidirectional instability, arthroscopy has the best result in treating all instabilities.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-4fb1c081 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"4fb1c081\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wider\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-67af52f2\" data-id=\"67af52f2\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5f0892b0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5f0892b0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>SLAP Superior Labrum Anterior &amp; Posterior Injuries<\/strong><\/h3><p>This is an injury to the upper labrum. The labrum is a fibrocartilaginous ring that surrounds and adheres to the glenoid giving stability to the joint. The biceps tendon also attaches to the labrum.<\/p><p>Injuries can be in the front or in the back of the labrum and may involve the biceps tendon. It is common in athletes as an overload trauma or repetitive shoulder motion. Many however are the result of a slow wearing down of the labrum over time and an aging process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c772569 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6c772569\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-790ad3aa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"790ad3aa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li class=\" translation-block\">Conservative - treatment is initially conservative with physiotherapy and strengthening of the dynamic stabilizers.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Surgery - treatment depends on the type of lesion, age and associated injury of the biceps tendon. It will be done with arthroscopy potentially consisting of debridement, suture anchors or a biceps tenodesis.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2e0e3ded elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2e0e3ded\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wider\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-43fa3eca\" data-id=\"43fa3eca\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c32a9b4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7c32a9b4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Subacromial Syndrome<\/strong><\/h3><p>Hip replacement surgery is recommended when all other treatment options have failed to relieve pain. The hip joint is fully or partially replaced with an implant made of metal, ceramic, and plastic components.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75a2fa9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"75a2fa9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-63d9c3fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"63d9c3fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Treatment is similar to that of rotator cuff injuries.\u00a0<\/p><ul><li class=\" translation-block\">Conservative - consisting of cryotherapy, anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and subacromial corticosteroid injections.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Surgery - consisting of arthroscopic debridement and possible repair if there is an injury.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-f0a1498 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"f0a1498\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wider\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7e3d117\" data-id=\"7e3d117\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-40b90b9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"40b90b9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Suprascapular Nerve Neuropraxia<\/strong><\/h3><p>This is a compression of the peripheral nerve from the C5-C6 brachial plexus branch. It is a motor nerve which innervates the supra and infraspinatus muscles, causing interruption of the nerve impulse. It is rare and difficult to treat, producing a diffuse deep pain in the shoulder radiating to the neck and arm, with atrophy of the muscles that it innervates. It may occur in association with paralabral cysts and rotator cuff tears.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c5e0c7f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c5e0c7f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ccdfdb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5ccdfdb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li class=\" translation-block\">Conservative - usually consisting of rest and physiotherapy and can be resolved in six to twelve months.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Surgery - If the compression is chronic with muscular atrophy or a massive nerve compression, then arthroscopic or open surgical decompression will be used.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b7e3717 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b7e3717\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wider\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-32abec1\" data-id=\"32abec1\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46faf78 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46faf78\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Proximal Humeral Extremity Fractures<\/strong><\/h3><p>These fractures are caused by indirect trauma and occasionally by direct seizures or electric shock. They are very frequent and account for 4-6% of all fractures. There may also be associated lesions of the axillary nerve. They are classified depending on location of the fracture and number of segments.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c695c96 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c695c96\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bdddfe7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bdddfe7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li class=\" translation-block\">Conservative - possible for 80% of cases, with immobilization in a sling for three weeks and early mobilization after seven to ten days.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Surgery - consisting of anatomic reduction and early rehabilitation.
