ABOUT US

Clínica del Tenis Teknon is the first international clinic dedicated to the research and prevention of tennis and sports related pathologies.

Relying on cutting-edge technology and an expert team composed of renowned professionals in the sector, we work to prevent injuries, promote health and improve the quality of life of tennis players.

Our clinic is rooted in some of tennis' core values:

We are the official healthcare providers for the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, the Carles Ferrer Salat Tennis Empowerment Center, the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour, and the Davis Cup.

As members of Quirónsalud, we are also the official healthcare providers for the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation.

Our facilities

Clínica del Tenis Teknon is a 268-square-metre clinic comprising five consulting rooms with ultrasound and ergometry equipment, a gym for sports rehabilitation, and an area dedicated to physical therapy.

It is located on the lower ground floor of the Teknon Medical Centre and can be accessed from the Marquesa building and the diagnostics area.

Dr. Ángel Ruiz Cotorro

  • Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santander in 1982.
  • Certificate of Advanced Studies in Biology and Sports Medicine from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris in 1985.
  • Doctor in Physical Education and Sports Medicine by the University of Barcelona in 1990.
  • Master's degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in collaboration with Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, in 1995.

Professional experience with tennis players

  • Doctor for the Biology and Sports Medicine Unit at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris between 1984 and 1986.
  • Doctor for the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation since 1987.
  • Head doctor for the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation since 1992.
  • Head of the medical team for the tennis competition in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
  • Head doctor for the men's and women's tennis teams at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000), Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), London (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2020).
  • Member of the Sports Science and the Medicine Commission at the International Tennis Federation (ITF)
  • Member of the Society for Tennis Medicine and Science.
  • Medical director for the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell since 2009.
  • Founder and director of Clínica MAPFRE de Medicina del Tenis between 2009 and 2022.
  • Medical director of the official medical team for the 2019 Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals.
  • Head of Quirónsalud’s official medical team for the 2021 and 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals.
